funnily enough, prior to the end of last season, antonio's best position for scoring goals was at RB/RWB.

could've been an absolute bruiser in that position, but it was daft to think he'd ever have the nous, application or desire to play there.

Is that why Bilic (who bought him - allegedly) played him at right back you soppy old cunt?

Russ - it has nothing to do with crystal balls. It's all about experience. Watching football for 60 years gives you a bit of an insight and from my pov rarely do you see 25 year old midfielders who can't shoot too well suddenly get turned into 10 goal a season goal scoring machines.
Pablo gets into plenty of good scoring positions but he just can't finish very often, and from my experience I can't see that changing.
If Moyes can get him up to 5 or 6 a season then that's probably as far as he can go, and will do for me.

By the way, Antonio was a goalscoring winger. That's why we bought him.

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-3
Antonio's a pretty bad example, seeing as he'd scored 15 goals for Forest the season before he joined us and averaged about 7 goals a season since he was a teenager. Even then I'd say he could do with working on his finishing even now.

Well, unless you have a crystal ball, you don't know he won't improve his finishing. It is difficult to coach but it can be done.

Look at Antonio.

Good to Yarmalenko in the shop window last night! Warming up for the last 30 seconds!

Thought Randolph did well last night 2 crucial saves. 3rd goal was the highlight of the night, Fornals excellent in the build up and Lingard finally showed a bit of quality after an ordinary game!

Vexed - Unless you have proof of that accusation I'd advise you to keep schtum. Otherwise you could be putting this site in jeopardy.

How about you just shut the fuck up anyway.

Russ, I could have written that assessment of Pablo myself (apart from playing at a fair standard of weekend footbal!).

I think he is crucial to our style of play. He's brilliant at pinching possession and getting the ball forward fast, which is clearly Moyes's preferred method of attack. And he has such a positive and determined attitude that is a big contribution in itself.

The only thing I'd disagree with is that he'll improve his shooting and goalscoring. This kind of thing is often said, but rarely happens. Particularly when they are in their mid-twenties.
I hope I'm wrong but he's just not a natural finisher and that kind of thing is very difficult to coach.

Nevertheless he's an integral part of our defensive midfield and would be missed if he wasn't there.

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-3
Didn't say it did. He concerns me. Fabianski gives me heart attacks when he has the ball at his feet but Randolph is an accident waiting to happen. An actual accident, not the 'accidents' his wife has at home.

Not really sure how him being a wife beater comes into his ability as an footballer.

However, he's average at best.

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-3
Wingers back in the 442 days were never judged on the amount of goals they scored. These days wide forwards are. And Fornals doesn't play behind a front 3. Most of the games he's started this season have been on the left, with a handful on the right and a handful in the middle. He just tends to track back more than the others.

Agree about his hard work and obviously he'd be worth more if he could get 10 goals a season, but he doesn't, so it's a moot point really.

Anyone a bit concerned that the drunken wife beater with marshmallow hands Randolph will possibly be in goal for the game we might desperately need a result in?

Iron Duke 2:51 Thu May 20
Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-3
I wasn’t comparing them. I was just using Devo as an example of why you can’t always judge players by the amount of goals they have scored.

Fornals usually plays behind Antonio, Lingard and Bowen/Benrahma. His hard work also allows Soucek and Rice to get forward.

If he could do all those things plus get 10 goals a season then he would be worth £60m.
